Strength & Conditioning

At Sligo Physio Space all our Physiotherapists are trained in strength & conditioning (S&C) and use the principles of S&C to inform your rehabilitation program and your exercise classes ensuring you get the most out of your rehabilitation. We therefore offer 1.1 or small group S&C sessions. We have also just started our first over 55’s Strength & Conditioning classes.

Who is it for?

S&C sessions are aimed to assist the treatment and rehabilitation for a wide range of clients, ranging from sports injury and return to play, pre and post surgical rehabilitation, management of chronic conditions such as: back pain, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia. Those looking to return to exercise but feel they need some support to improve confidence after injury. If you are wanting to join a gym/cross-fit/HIT classes but feel you need some help getting you there, a few sessions with our physiotherapists will leave you feeling confident with the next step in your fitness journey.

Example of a typical client?

Our guided rehabilitation programme is open to anyone who feels they would benefit from closer work with a physiotherapist during the rehabilitation process. This can be to assist recovery following an operation, help to manage an acute injury and return to sport or to regain confidence to exercise again if you have an acute or longer term condition.

What’s involved?

Our S&C sessions are designed  to allow you to work towards reaching your personal targets, whether this is returning to first team play or running your first 5km. We will assess you using our force plates which will give us a detailed assessment of your neuromuscular performance, strength profile, asymmetries and movement strategies. This allows us to personalise your rehabilitation and performance program,We can create guided programmes to help you along the way. Over a number of sessions we will tailor your exercise in line with your progress making sure to challenge you whilst still keeping the process FUN!
Using our state of the art rehabilitation gym facility we have all the tools to help you build strength, regain movement, develop confidence and ultimately achieve your goals.

Why should I do S&C?

This is a great way to regain confidence and rehabilitate an injury with guidance from clinical specialist Physiotherapists in a modern exercise facility.
Remember, You don’t have to be injured to get better! We also work with an injury free population who are just looking to optimise their performance, enabling them to do what they do best – even better! All the research shows that we need stronger muscles and bones to allow us to age better, perform better in our daily lives and sports. You will be hearing this message from numerous media and medical sources but may be confused on how to get started. As Physiotherapists we are highly trained at assessing your abilities and therefore can design a program that is safe, challenging and specific to your needs.
